Homemade Beauty: Facial Scrub

Have you ever noticed how beauty products these days are ridiculously expensive? And most of us are not just buying one or two things. If you're like me, you've got a drawer in your bathroom full of random hair products, lotions, face wash, shampoos, conditioners, shaving cream, deodorant, hairspray, gel, perfumes, soaps, and make up. Whew... could the list get any longer!?

I decided a couple months ago to look into reducing the amount of beauty products I buy. That means, as I run out of something, I'll ask myself, is this a necessary product for me to keep using? I'll also ask myself, can I make a similar beauty product myself with ingredients I already have in my house? The answer is yes! It isn't always easy giving up or finding alternatives to some of the beauty products companies expect us all to buy each month, but once you do it feels great! Want to know what else feels great? Knowing beauty isn't something you buy! Over the next several weeks, I am going to write several posts about homemade beauty products. All will be simple and easy to make and are quite effective. And it's fun!

Want to know a good step towards getting radiant skin? Most facial skin care lines suggest a light exfoliation every few days to rid off dead skin cells. I use to buy a facial scrub from Burt's Bees that ran $8 a small jar. I haven't purchased facial scrub for months because making my own is so darn easy. I honestly can't tell a difference between the two. Here is a simple and easy recipe for homemade facial scrub with brown sugar.

Homemade Brown Sugar Facial Scrub
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/4 tsp Cinnamon

Mix the ingredients thoroughly in a bowl. Store in a small jar (I even made a travel size version). Keep near your sink or shower. Use a small amount and rub gently on your face and neck with a couple drops of warm water. Rinse and enjoy!
